  • Julian of Norwich Teaching day

This incredible woman was the first English woman to write a full book, which we can still buy today, despite the fact that we don’t even know her name. An influential spiritual guide to the high and low born in the 14th/15th century, Mother Julian lived through plague and national disaster without wavering from her faith. She spoke directly to Christ in a vision on her death bed, which she then survived and spent the next 20 years, walled up as an anchorite, unfolding into one of the most beautiful and influential books ever written. Her ‘Revelations of Divine Love’ challenged many traditional understandings in the church of her day, and ours. Seeing Christ as mother, having the opportunity to ask Christ directly about why there is suffering in the world, Mother Julian will challenge and enlighten you, as she has done to millions of people through the centuries.

Come to this day to find our how her Revelations of Divine Love can change the way you think of Christ, the church, and the world in which you live.

  • Thomas Merton teaching day

This 20th century peace activist American monk has been one of the most influential teachers of modern times. Friend of the Dalai Lama, and Zen Masters Suzuki Roshi and Thich Nhat Hanh, Merton transformed the way in which Christian understanding can be lived out. He taught on the importance of transitioning from our false selves to living out of our True selves, that is from the egoic persona to the Divine reality of our inner selves, and how the mystical tradition, often found in the teachings of the Desert Fathers and Mothers, can be the deepest influence on the church and its members. After a mystical experience in the middle of a busy American high street, Merton shifted the way he saw things to encompass all others as one in Divine Love.

Come to this day to find out more about how we can shift our inner concepts from our false self to our True Self, and how the embodiment of Divine Love is the key to changing the world and bringing world peace.

  • Meister Eckhart teaching day

This highly influential man, who held some of the most significant roles in the Dominican tradition in the 14th century, taught mostly Beguine women in the mystic reality of how to embody the Cosmic Christ. With Christo-centric teachings that sound a lot like the teachings from Buddhism, which is highly influential in modern Western culture, such as detachment; apophatic theology (the unknowing of God); and a deep reverence to the sacredness of nature, Meister Eckhart disrupted the status quo of the institutional church of his day, bringing about a continually deepening teaching of deconstruction of institutionalised faith.

Come to this day to find out how these century old teachings are just as relevant today in helping move the church and its individual members forward to a better future.

  • Evelyn Underhill teaching day

This 20th century scholar of mysticism wrote some of the most significant books on the mystic tradition, and the Christian mystics in particular. She never claimed to be a mystic, but wrote like one as she expanded the teachings of mystics through the centuries. Her teachings, through her books and the transcripts we can obtain from her talks at retreats she ran, are some of the best teachings of mysticism out there. She saw the world’s, and the individuals’ relationship with the Divine, or as she termed it ‘Ultimate Reality’, as the key to the transformation of all things. Profoundly deep whilst being beautifully accessible, Evelyn Underhill remains a pillar of the Christian mystic tradition.

Come to this day to discover more of what she has to say, and how she herself was, in fact, a deeply mystical person, and find out how we might be able to take on board her version of the mystics of the past to transform our own lives for the better.

  • Gregory Palamas teaching day

This 14th century teacher from the Orthodox tradition wrote one of the most influential books on the Easten Orthodox contemplative and mystic tradition - Hesychasm. Archbishop of Thessalonica, Palamas defended an official attack on the Orthodox monks who had dedicated their lives to silent prayer, and spoke of how powerful that lifestyle could be. The energy created by the deep contemplative hesychast monks was, he taught, able to transform the atmosphere in a wider context to their own physical proximity. Speaking words that sound a little like the modern conversation and continuing discoveries in Quantum Mechanics, Gregory Palamas shows how hesychasm – a Greek word that literally means ‘stillness’ – brought about by using the mantra of the traditional Orthodox ‘Jesus Prayer’ - can transform not only the individual, but the world as a whole.

Come to this day to discover how the simple, yet profoundly deep, practice of hesychasm can transform your inner being in a way that has a natural affect on the rest of the world.
